Giant wireless hotspot planned for Las Vegas resort
A 2 million-square-foot wireless in-building network is planned for the M Resort, Spa, and Casino, under construction in Las Vegas. The giant hotspot, being installed by cell phone service provider Sprint and in-building infrastructure builder MobileAccess, will seamlessly link a variety of incompatible wireless architectures.
Sprint's Converged Network Solutions team is fitting the M Resort with a universal communications system that will deliver wireless voice and data services to mobile phones, BlackBerrys, PDAs, and laptops throughout the facility. The network will cover restaurants, spas, gaming areas, and 390 guest rooms.
"The M Resort will be equipped with the latest communications technology to accommodate the needs of our guests, as well as our team members, from the moment we open our doors," said Rob Willis, the resort's VP of information technology, in a statement. "By embracing wireless technology now, we can make a decisive impact on all aspects of our operations."
The MobileAccess Universal Wireless Network can accommodate numerous commercial wireless architectures as well as the two-way radios used by public-safety agencies.
While Sprint and MobileAccess have long experience with existing wireless networks, the two companies have also been in the vanguard of WiMax implementation. MobileAccess has included WiMax capability in its portfolio of products, while Sprint has been seeking to deploy WiMax across the United States.
The two companies stressed the importance of being able to install the wireless network while the resort and spa are still under construction.
"By building always-on, seamless wireless coverage from the ground up, M Resort will stand out as a cutting-edge luxury destination from day one," MobileAccess CEO Cathy Zatloukal said in a statement.
